404 Event - Say hi!
The yawn that came from his bored self could be described as nothing less than colossal, a forlorn expression on his face as he gazed with great boredom at the two of them. Good grief, why were they muttering at him and waving their hooves at him with some sense of urgency? With a flick of his twin tails, Humbug twisted his head to look up at them, not bothering to raise himself to his feet, his thick, padded blanket keeping the dirt from his feet.
"What Exactly is it that you want? Know my time is precious and I don't have the patience to deal with most drakiri." He almost snapped but almost instantly raised an eyeridge. He couldn't help but be forced to come to terms with two things.
Firstly, the most Abnormally Large, mottled blue and matted kelpie that he had ever seen, who's feet were almost covered in a layer of mud from whatever bog they decided to roll in... and a strikingly colourful drakiri, locks of fluff practically billowing around them as they moved while the sun danced through her fine curls. Though, she was a little more on the larger size for his liking, but she was pleasant enough to look at, especially when he compared her to that... thing next to her. He almost tutted as he realised that, instead of hooves, her front feet were... paws. What a let down.
The kelpie let out an exasperated sigh, drawing Humbugs attention, "For crying out loud, we've been shouting at you to move, can't you see the giant crack beneath your paws? Good grief, how oblivious to the world are you, this is why I didn't want to leave my mountain Rain."
"Well, I know, but I toooold you I felt it around here somewhere." The lady protested, a small pout on her face, "Come on, don't you want to see him again? Or her. Or whatever it is. Who really knows what it is..."
Humbug clicked his tongue in mild frustration, which seemed to snap the lass out of her babbling, thank the stars for that! If her tone wasn't so annoying, he may have fought mountains to gain her affection, though that prospect was quickly dimming in his eyes. "If you don't mind me interrupting your rambles, what exactly are you saying, what cracks beneath my hooves?"
Polaris gave a mildly frustrated sigh, "Would you be so kind as to remove your darn courtyard of a blanket!"
Before Humbug could even stand, the giant kelpie was making a move. His mouth grasped the plush, extravagantly decorated blanket, tearing it out from underneath Humbug in a split second. A moment later, Humbug was thrown backwards, twin tails lashing as he somersaulted through the air and cracked his back on the tree, paws thrown awkwardly around him.
"EXCUSE YOU, HOW DARE YOU TAKE MY BLANKET AN-"
"Oh quit your yabbering ya pompous, uptight pink hide and look at where ya sitting!" Polaris snapped back, his shimmering paw pointing directly to a gaping chasm which had happened to be directly under the blanket, silently...
Closing, yet opening the earth up, the abyss faintly glowing deep beneath. Humbug stared at it, ignoring his ridiculously sprawled self as he rolled to his feet, staring at it with absolute confusion. For a few moments. Before rage filled him as he saw the blanket on the ground, a giant fresh tear plus teeth marks studded through it.
He instantly forgot about the weird ground, inhaling in fury as he turned his wrath to Polaris, "How DARE you rip MY BLANKET! That was a GIFT! And you've absolu-"
"Guys..."
Polaris cut him off, having had quite enough of this entitled Nightmare, "Oh quite ya BELLY ACHING YOU MISERABLE CRE-"
"Knock it off..."
Humbug snorted, standing full height as he shouted back at the giant kelpie, ignoring the fact he was almost twice Humbugs own height, practically pawing the ground in rage, "OH, I'LL SHOW YOU WHO'S MISERABLE YOU INCOMPETENT BLUE MONST-"
"You didn't just say that to him..."
Polaris rammed his head against Humbugs, horns cracking against each, Humbugs eyes glowing in anger as Polaris' gaze bore holes right back into his, snarling at the moronic city slicker.
"Come on Polaris, calm down..."
"Don't think I won't break my oath to help to put you into the ground, you miserable, selfish, worthless creature." Polaris said, tone dead cold, voice almost sending shivers down Humbugs spine. But, anger blinded his sense of self preservation and he just snarled.
"Oh! Hey dad!"
"I doubt you're capable of such a feat, 'your grace'." Humbug mocked, before the pair of them both felt... paws. And tails... wacking their nose, tendrils of darkness wrapping around them and tearing the two back from each other.
"Now now now! We don't want to see fighting around here, now do we?" A fourth voice asked, their tendrils receding as they... it... chuckled. The trees shedding all their leaf as if in winter, only to also be sprouting fruit at the same time. The grass at all their paws seemed to be... growing dry, yet suddenly blossoming into flower, while the ground dried to become rock. The sky turned grey, thunderstorms suddenly blocking up the glorious sun Humbug had previously been basking in.
Terror was the only expression written on Humbugs face as he backed away, tails between his legs, staring at this... horrific, eldritch creature, a thousand eyes and cracking tendrils practically daring him to move, its face distorted, almost bleeding from a hundred wounds, but the gaze... solely on him... his world seemed to become black, everything around him dead. Paralysed, all he could do was state at the appearance of his worst, horrible nightmares.
Rain trilled in almost delight as she pranced over to this eldritch monstrosity, her head nuzzling it with affection. To her, she saw a creature practically identical to herself, but instead bore great golden wings, unlike her wingless self. She smiled, quite happily.
"Its been too long!" Rain declared, Polaris nodding in agreement. Though, to him, he saw another third version of this creature. A simple creature much like himself, though, black with mottled red, and quite a drakiri as well.
He inclined his head to it, "I must agree with Rain, though, why do you only come about once a year?"
The error turned its head, both looking at Polaris and returning the affectionate nuzzle to Rain. A cheeky smile appeared on its face, "Well, its tradition! If I'm around all year, there's no sense of surprise and anticipation."
The reason seemed to satisfy Polaris, but made Rain whine in protest, "But if you're always away, we don't get to have your company! Its not fair!"
The unusual drakiri just tilted its head from side to side, shuffling its wings, "That may be so, but if I were here every week, then where's the anticipation and excitement, hmm?"
Rain considered if for a few moments, before she heard a small, pitiful whimper that took the trios attention. Practically shaking in place, tails between his legs, staring with pale eyes was an equally paled Humbug, staring at the monstrosity...
"What are you doing to him...?" Polaris asked, cautiously, the error giving a Wicked grin.
"Making sure he doesn't mess with my kids." It said simple, giving a subtle nudge to Rain, the lass taking a step back, slightly.
The next moment, Humbug yowled in terror, leaping to his feet as he bolted away from them, leaving his precious blanket behind. Rain and Polaris looked puzzled, but the error knew what it did.
Oh it knew Humbugs worst fears, the deepest, darkest horrors that the Nightmare couldn't handle. It was all too giddy with excitement to give them all to Humbug on a silver platter; to be an experience that he wouldn't ever forget.
Humbug bites off more than he can chew...
